Wanted: Media Friendly Peak Oil Survivalist

We've had a request from a team producing a TV series which will include an episode on how different people are responding to peak oil.

They'd like to include a survivalist who is happy to explain the survivalist approaching to adapting to the post peak world.

If you fit the bill and would like to know more, please contact Phil or I (contact details in the sidebar) and we'll put you in touch with them...

Mate can you define "suvivalist"?

The term for me conjurs up guns, canned grub and bomb shelters set high on unproductive hill country...

Whereas a real survivalist will be in tune with the earth and using its inate productive capacity to survive and thrive in low energy times!

And the 'guns and ammo' type survivalist probably isn't going to be interested in talking to the media, either. :p

I don't think they are having any trouble finding the permaculture style "survivalist" - its more the classic guns, ammo, canned food and bunker in the hills type they are after.

As you say, these guys don't tend to lust after their 15 minutes of fme on TV all that much...

I think if you don't have assault rifles and spam you probably wouldn't call yourself a "survivalist"... and wouldn't want the media to have the chance to make you look like a loon.

Whatever the media get hold of, they sensationalise it, mock it or commercialise it. I don't see how any of those could be good for us...

I am not sure I would be considered a 'survivalist', however upon learning of peak oil in late 2006 I have moved my family from Long Island to North Carolina, changed professions, established a 1500 sq ft garden, am raising chickens, and of course armed myself. I know this is no promose of survival, However, I want to give myself a chance.

Are you at liberty to say who is producing this show, what the general topic and aims of the series is, and what channel it is likely to be shown on?

It could be something really good for us all, the more of the general public that are tuned into Peak Oil, and the sooner, then the better for all of us to prepare and adapt and survive. After all, governments can only follow their people.

The show is for SBS.

The show will "explore different facets of Australian society and culture". In one of the episodes they will talk to "people who are changing their lifestyles in response to climate change and peak oil".

The show is for SBS.

Interesting!!! :)
