The new Minister for Climate Change is recycling the porkies from the previous government. If Australia had to make the same cuts as Europe and we hadn't conveniently found extra suction in land use changes we would be 20% over target. I don't think cleantech projects are going anywhere near fast enough to make up the difference for the 2020 target.

Other thoughts: Tassie farmers may be turning to biodiesel from poppy seed oil because Afghanistan has flooded the market for opium feedstock. Houseblocks of say .5ac/.2ha could probably supply most water, food and energy (including for an electric car) if they had enough set up work with PV, wastewater treatment and so on. However I don't see where that money, up to $100k per home, will ever come from.

:-)

I must admit I thought I was reading one of Malcolm Turnbull's press releases when i saw that "we're meeting our Kyoto target" nonsense.
